Take your workflow to the next level

A UDISAS Higher Education assessment helps to identify the challenges that hold you back and then introduces you to the strategies and technologies that can transform how you work.

You don’t need to qualify for Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) or even have a formal diagnosis to get help with your studies. Whatever the cause of your difficulties, UDISAS Higher Education can help you find the solution.

User scenarios

You don’t have access to DSA

You may be an international student studying at a UK institution, unable to use a formal funding route, or prefer to explore support independently.

You experience study barriers but aren’t disabled

If you find aspects of study challenging but have simply thought, “that’s just how I am”, UDISAS can help you clarify, contextualise, and explore alternative ways of working.

You want to plan ahead

If you are preparing to begin higher education, the assessment can help you evaluate your experience of study and the related support you may need.

Your study forms part of an apprenticeship

If you are studying as part of an apprenticeship, you can use a UDISAS assessment to identify practical barriers, some of which may also affect you in the workplace as well.

You want to explore further

You may have already completed another assessment and want to explore your needs and support options in more detail before deciding what to do next.

Your Assessment

What to expect from a UDISAS assessment

A screenshot of an assessment question from the UDISAS platform. The question asks about avoidance of research tasks, with the using having selected 'often' from a range of selectable frequencies.

Students with the same diagnosis can experience different barriers, while the recognition that some activities are harder than they should be doesn’t need a diagnosis to begin with.

Even though we have profiled over 450 different conditions in detail, a UDISAS assessment fundamentally revolves around your actual experience of studying rather than making assumptions based on a diagnostic label.

The assessment asks about your academic activities, the challenges you experience, and the circumstances that shape them. The question sequence responds to the answers you provide, ensuring that the entire assessment process remains relevant and ground in the reality of your study experience.

Move at your own pace

You can work through the assessment gradually, using the secure sign-in link sent to your email address to leave and return.

Choose from clear response options

Most questions use defined response choices, so you do not have to explain everything through long written answers. You can add further information where it helps.

Build a detailed picture of need

Your answers create a structured record of how different activities and barriers affect your studies, giving the next stage a clearer foundation.

Choosing Support

Support options that match your answers

The UDISAS ‘Recommendation Engine’ uses the information gathered during your assessment to identify strategies and technologies that are relevant to the barriers you have recorded.

Each support solution has been profiled in detail, with format and functionality mapped and classified. Further insight is gained through links to product websites, demonstration videos, and (where available) free trial access.

Where a single strategy offers multiple selectable options, a ‘help me choose’ feature allows you to narrow down the selections using filters and key points of comparison.

Up until the point of report generation, support selections can be reviewed and changed as many times as you need.

Identify relevant strategies

The Recommendation Engine connects the difficulties recorded in your assessment with support strategies designed to address them.

Review the available options

You can consider what each strategy is intended to help with, compare suitable tools where alternatives are available, and use demonstrations and compatibility information.

Decide what to take forward

You choose the strategies and tools that are right for you. If you need help or additional support, you can request input from a UDISAS assessor who will make contact to discuss the situation.

Personalised Report

A written record of your assessment and support outcomes

Once you have finalised your support selections, the UDISAS platform automatically generates a full report.

After a final check by a UDISAS assessor, this is emailed to you in PDF format.

A clear account of your needs

The report records the study-related barriers identified through your answers and includes relevant additional information in your own words where you have provided it.

Your support selections

The report explains the strategies and technologies you chose to take forward and how they may help to address the needs recorded in the assessment.

A foundation for next steps

You can use the report to organise your thinking, explore support, and begin better-informed conversations with third parties.

In addition to an outline of the support strategies that you have selected, your report includes a section that groups and lists difficulties that could be addressed through the implementation of reasonable adjustments. This can provide the foundation for a discussion with the student support team at your university or college.
